Mamie Marie Hightower

Funeral services for Mamie Marie Hightower, 91, of Coos Bay, will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Coos Bay Chapel. Pastor John Hobson of the First Baptist Church, North Bend, will officiate, with committal at Sunset Memorial Park, Coos Bay.

She was born April 22, 1905, at Milford, Texas, and died Oct. 11, 1996, at Coos Bay of natural causes.

Mrs. Hightower lived in Coos Bay for the past 20 years, after she had retired as a clerk for Fred Meyer in Portland.

She was a member of the North Bend First Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Horton L. "Tex" and Peggy Hightower of Eugene; grandchildren, Connie Giacchero of Portland, Linda Kight of Fullerton, Calif., Cathy Tucker of Portage, Ind., Nancy McDowell of Vancouver, Wash., Jeri Young of Coos Bay, and David Canup of North Bend; 11 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Sam Hightower, in 1972; grandsons, Chad Canup, in 1993, and Shawn McDowell, in 1996.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the First Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 2080 Marion Ave., North Bend, 97459.
