Luman Edgar Saxton

The death of Luman Edgar Saxton, a former well known resident of Otsego County, occurred at the home of his daughter, Mrs. E.V. Adams at East Orange, N.J., on Sunday as a result of the infirmities of old age.
Mr. Saxton was the son of John and Asenath Bates Saxton and was born at Westville, May 26, 1849. As a young man he moved with his family to Geneva, Ohio, where he learned the watchmaker's trade. Later he returned to Milford, this county, where he was engaged in the jewelry business for years. He then opened a store in Cooperstown, which he conducted until he retired from active life. For the past several years he has resided in Florida.
Mr. Saxton was a successful business man with a wide circle of friends and acquaintances throughout this part of Otsego County. A member of the Methodist Episcopal Church at Milford, he took an active part in its affairs, for twenty years acting as leader of the choir and also for some time as superintendent of the Sunday school.
Surviving besides the widow, who was Miss Lucille Sanborn of Jacksonville, Fla., are one brother, Hiram Saxton of Mt. Vision; two sons, Lavern F. Saxton of Fort Plain and William of Cleveland, Ohio, and one daughter, Mrs. Adams above mentioned.
The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the Methodist Episcopal Church at Milford, the Rev. Nelson B. Ripley, Officiating.
