A life well lived.Born in Sidney in 1915,Rodneyy Robinson Blake was the fifth chils of Barbara and Thaleon Blake.His Blake ancestors,Rebecca and John,were among the first settlers in Sidnry and built the firstframe house in yhe early 1800s.they began operation a store,tavern and hotel on their property.The family roots in Sidney are deep as future generations of engineers,surveyors ,builders,and pharacists continued investing in the town.Today,many family documents are available at the Shelby County Historial Society thanks to a recent donation fron Rodney.
Rodney graduated from Sidney High School in 1932.he then attended Ohio Northern University in Ada,Ohio,and graduated from Law School in 1939.Following graduation ,he returned to Sidney and began his law practice with W.H.Emmons.he continued practicing law in Sidney for over 60 years,He was elected and served asproscuting attorney fron 1940 to 1956.A long-standing member of the Sidney School Board,he served as president and retired in 1960.he was a lifetime member of the Shelby County Deer Hunter Association.Rodney was also a member of the board of directors of Peoples Feberal Savings and Loan Association.
Rodney and Marjorie Tallman were married in 1939.they had four children;Helen Wildermuth,Rodney R.Blake Jr,Betty Jo.Faulkner and Janice Blake.they had 12grandchildren and 14great-grandchildren who were active in his life untill his last days.each years since 1995.Rodney sponsored a Blake Family Reuion in Hilton Head Island.South Carolina where family gathered and enjoyed his presence.Marjorie preceded him in death in 1975.he was then married to Bernice Berry who also preceded him in death and had two stepchildren Philip and Steven Berry and several step-grandchildren
Retiring to Highland Beach ,Fla. he was a member ofthe Delray Presbyterian Church.Rodney was a 32nd mason active withthe Gold Coast Shine inBoca Raton.Blake passed away at his daughter Betty Jo's home Fort Lauderdale on Monday,May 26,2008 while sleeping.He as a member of the Sidney First Unoted Methodist Church.
A Celebration of his life will be held in his honor Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the church Sanctuary.
A reception for friends and family will follow the service.
