He was a member of the Watertown Disabled American Veterans, Watertown Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1400, Black River American Legion, International Police Association, Buffalo, the Carthage Elks Lodge and Masonic Lodge, Moslah Temple Shrine, Fort Worth, Texas.
Born Nov. 4, 1923, in the town of Orleans, son of Fredrick and Marion Sims Timmerman, he graduated from high school, worked for a time as a bellhop at the Hotel Woodruff in Watertown and was drafted into the Army in 1943.
He graduated from the Adjutant General's School at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Ind., and studied Czechoslovakian at the Department of Defense Language School at Presidio of Monterey, Calif.
He married Betty J. Alexander on April 20, 1947, at Sackets Harbor with town Justice Ira W. Stokes officiating.
The couple resided throughout the United States and Europe, moving to Black River in the early 1970s.
