CUMBERLAND,MARYLAND-- Harold Watson Davis, 80, of Cumberland, went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 1, 2004, at the Cumberland Villa Nursing Home.

Born May 11, 1923, in Keyser, W.Va., he was the son of the late George Hillery Davis and Susan (Keplinger) Davis. He was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth H. Davis; and his three sisters, Margaret Malone, Ruth Third, and Mary F. Grigsby.

Mr. Davis was a veteran of World War II serving as a Chief Petty Officer in the United States Navy having been involved with seven major battles. Mr. Davis was retired from the Western Maryland Railroad as a Police Lieutenant. He was a member of the Henry Hart Post 1411 V.F.W., and the Fort Cumberland Post 13 American Legion having served twice as Commander. He was also a member of the 40&8, the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 245, the Outdoor Club, a 50-year member of the Potomac Lodge 100 A.F. & A.M., a 50-year Charter Member of Tall Cedars, a member of the Veterans Honor Guard for Burial Detail, the Disabled American Veterans, a former associate member of the Vietnam Veterans Association Chapter 172, and a life-member of the Good Fellowship Club.

Mr. Davis is survived by his wife, Helen (Chapman) Davis; his daughter, Carolyn L. Davis, Cumberland; his son, William H. Davis, Guerneville, Calif.; his grandson, Karlson Stansberry, Cumberland; and his sister, Eloise Bealky, Chandler, Ariz. The family would like to thank Dr. Halmos, the nurses, staff, and residents for all the kindness and care from their hearts extended to Harold during his 2 1/2 years at the Cumberland Villa Nursing Home. They were family to him. Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., (formerly Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A.), 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, ( www.Adamsfamilyfuneralhome.com) on Thursday, March 4, 2004, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday, March 5, 2004, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Richard Jewell officiating. Military Honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.

Interment will be at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap.
