Tom Runyan, 82, of Clarinda died early Thursday morning at Bethesda Care Center, where he had been the past two weeks.
He was born February 26, 1900, near Coin, the son of John and Ruth Bunting Runyan. He was married to Margie Scott at Gravette, AR, on Dec 28, 1919. They spent 20 years on farms in Texas and three in Oklahoma before returning to Iowa. They farmed in Iowa for 15 years. They have lived in Clarinda for the past 23 years.
Mr. Runyan's retirement hobbies were wood-working and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, and two sisters.
Surviving are his wife, Margie, of Clarinda; sons: Glen Runyan of Miami, FL; Ivan Runyan of Coin; Walter Runyan of Elgin, IL; Wayne Runyan of Spring Valley, CA; Don Runyan of Clarinda, and a daughter, Thelma, (Mrs. Steve Young), of Plano, IA; sixteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren and a brother, Guy Runyan, of Hollywood, CA.
The family was together over the memorial Day weekend.
Funeral services were held at the Walker-Merrick Funeral Home Saturday at 1:30 pm with the Rev. Harland T. Gant officiating.
Burial was in the Maple Hill cemetery at College Springs.
