"Jeanne Macia Devere, 63, Tombstone, died Tuesday in Sierra Vista Hospital. Born Aug. 6, 1914 in Tombstone, she was the granddaughter of Arizona Pioneers, Chris and Alice Robertson, who came to Tombstone from Leadville, Colo. in 1880.
Mrs. Devere spent her life in Tombstone, a member of the Board of Directors Arizona Pioneer and Historical Society; member of the Governor Board for the Kino Statue; active in Tombstone; served on the Board of Directors of the Tombstone Restoration Commission, Tombstone Helldorado Inc., Tombstone Hospital and Hospital Auxiliary. Mrs. Devere was an active member of the Tombstone Chamber of Commerce and owner of the Rose Tree Inn, home of the world's largest rose bush. She was educated in Tombstone and at Northern Arizona University.
She is survived by her husband, Burton; daughters, Catherine Jenkins and Christine Herzig, both of Tucson; and sons, Burton Jr. of Tucson and John of Canton, Ill.; son-in-law, James Kearney of Tombstone; a brother J.H. Macia, Jr. of San Antonio, Tex.; and a sister, Iris Siek of Tempe; 14 grandchildren. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Church, Tombstone. Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Thomas Doyle officiating. The family suggests contributions may be made to the American Heart Association in memory of Mrs. Devere."
