Mrs Martha Weber Kennington 46, passed away at the Star Valley LDS Hospital at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 22 of a heart condition. Mrs Kennington suffered a stroke in 1948 leaving her partially paralyzed and an invalid. In March 1957 she fell and broke her hip and has been bedfast since.
A large number of family, relatives and friends paid their last respects to her Thursday in the Afton Second-Third Ward Chapel at 1 p.m. in funeral services conducted by the Second Ward Bishopric. Counselor Gale Haderlie officiated. Burial was in the Afton Cemetery.
She was born April 20, 1893 the last in a family of 13 children to Samuel Weber and Verena Goldenberger Weber at Providence, Cache County, Utah.
She came to Star Valley when only six weeks old with her family, and lived in freedom until the time she was married, spending her childhood and receiving her schooling there.
She married George Seward Kennington in the Logan LDS Temple Oct 23, 1913. They resided in Afton all their married life, except for three years during the war when she lived at Clearfield, Utah. Her husband was sustained as bishop of the Afton South ward in 1926, a position he held for six years, and she supported him faithfully in this calling. He died July 21, 1932.
She was active in church work having served in MIA, relief society and Sunday School positions. She was a talented writer and wrote scripts for a number of pageants and special programs. She also wrote many newspaper articles.
She participated in many civic activities and was an officer in the Farm Bureau organization. she was a kind and loving mother to her large family which included two stepdaughters.
She is survived by the following sons and daughters: Dr. Garth S. Kennington Berkeley Calif.; Mrs James (Gwenevere) Ray, Fentana Calif. Mr Gordon W. Kennington Oceanside, Calif. Mrs Tillman (Beverly) Lovelace Afton; Forrest Kennington, Bedford, Mrs Audine Stafford, Layton, Utah; Craig Kennington Ducheane, Utah; SS Eugene S. Kennington, Petaluma, Calif.; Ruth Kennington, Seattle, Wash; two stepdaughters Mrs Arthur (Berniece) Roberts and Mrs Ozro (Clarissa) Merritt Afton 26 grandchildren ;and five great grandchildren.
