Mrs. Adelaide Sawyer Lashomb, 80, widow of Fred Lashomb, died in Massena Memorial Hospital at 9:20 o'clock Friday night, April 3, 1959.
She had been a patient in the hospital four days. For 20 years she had been afflicted with Rheumatoid arthritis and her condition had become worse in the past three months.
Despite the severe pain caused by the affliction, Mrs. Lashomb remained cheerful. She was always ready to smile. The manner in which she bore the pain was commended by her physicians, friends and relatives.
She was born in Moose Creek, Ont., June 10, 1878, a daughter of Gasper and Sophia Houle Sawyer. She moved with her parents to Massena when she was seven years old and had resided in this area since.
She and Mr. Lashomb were married in Sacred Heart Church Jan. 23, 1899, by the late Father Nolan. They lived on their farm in Maple Ridge and Mr. Lashomb died June 5, 1946, just about a year after they had retired and moved to a smaller home.
Since then, Mrs. Lashomb has resided with her daughter, Mrs. Frank LaComb, 609 Main St. She is the last of a family of 12 children.
Surviving are one daughter. Mrs. Frank (Estelle) LaComb, Massena, and one son, Eugene Lashomb, Route 2, Brasher Falls; seven grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Also surviving are several nieces and nephews, also grand nieces and grand nephews.
A requiem high mass was celebrated at Sacret Heart Church at 10 o'clock this morning, and the body was placed in the vault in Calvary Cemetery to await burial.
Mrs. Lashomb was a member of Sacred Heart Church and of the League of the Sacred Heart.
