Norma June Johnson was born May 28, 1925 in Waukon, IA, the daughter of John M. and Thelma (Decker) Berg. She attended rural Allamakee Country Schools, and graduated from Waukon High School and Waukon Jr. College. On August 5, 1944 she married Roger Charles Johnson at the First Baptist Parsonage in Waukon. Norma and Roger farmed together in Ludlow Township for several years. She also worked as a cook at Makee Manor for many years. Norma was a member of Bethlehem Presbyterian Church in rural Waukon, where she taught Sunday school and served as treasurer for its ladies circles for over 30 years. Norma enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking, baking and dancing to the Toe Tappers. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and loved to hold babies and rock them in her rocking chair.
Survivors include her husband, Roger of Waukon; her children, Gary (Mary) Johnson of Postville, Larry (Sharon) Johnson of Decorah, Wayne Johnson, Virgil (Kay) Johnson and Lori (Brian) McCarthy all of Waukon; 18 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Marlin (Dorothy) Berg of Cedar Rapids, IA and Donald Berg of Corpus Christi, TX; 2 sisters, Gayle (Charles) Larkin of Waukon and Lorraine Geno of Dubuque, IA. She is preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Rodney Berg.
Honorary casketbearers are her granddaughters, Ashley Ahlstrom, Karen Cota, Molly Johnson, Amy Lenzendorf, Mandy McCarthy, Kimberly Ransom, Angie Scoville, Kris Stone. Casketbearers are her grandsons, Gary Jr., Steve, Jason, Chad, Jeremiah, Bobby, Sam, Jeremy and Justin Johnson and Jamie McCarthy.
