Darrell was born on February 5, 1937 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Elden Wilber Barney and Ruth Annie Holmes.
Darrell had lived in the Salt Lake area where he made many life long friends. He graduated from Granite High School and The University of Utah where he participated on the football and swim teams. He was married to Naomi Burrows and later divorced. He was then married to Marlene Christensen and later divorced. Darrell retired from Enoch Smith and Sons Co. where he worked for over 50 years. He was thoroughly enjoying his life in Mesquite with his "Baby" and sweetheart Nanette Needham.
He is survived by his father, Elden of Ivins, UT; siblings, Dorothy E Coke of Splendora, TX; Sharleen Barney and Jack Barney, both of Ivins, Utah; children, Mindy (Brad) McDonald, Julie Heim, Lynne (Norm) Powell, Kenneth (Ellen) Barney, Patrick (Lisl) Barney, and Sean (Kim) McDonald; 20 grandchildren; one great-grand-daughter; and his soul mate,
Nanette Needham.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth and stepfather, Joseph Kiesig; his stepmother, Evelynn Barney; brothers, Delroy, Elden (Butch), Sharrell; and great-children, Jeffrey McDonald and Kyr Barney.
Graveside service was held on Fri. October 19, 2007, 11 a.m. at the Ivins City Cemetery.
A "Life Celebration" was held Wednesday, October 24, 2007, at the River Oaks Golf Course Club House, 9300 S. Riverside Drive (700 W.) Sandy, Utah.
In lieu of flowers, make some memories by taking someone you care for golfing, hunting, or riding ATV's. Just make sure everyone wears a helmet.
