Cynthia was the 1st of 5 children born of William Avery (1726-1800) and his wife Hannah Meech (b. 1730). Cynthia Avery married Josiah Arms (1750-1803) by whom she had 14 children (8 sons and 6 daughters): Susanna (1774-1790); John (1776-1825); Willard (1780-1863); Josiah Willard (1781-1781); Josiah (1783-1795); Hannah; Lucinda; Daniel (1786-1840); Cynthia; Sybil (b. 1788); Elisha; William (1790-1876); Edwin (1794-1797); and Angelina. After Josiah died, Cynthia married for her second husband, Jabez Foster (1754-1818) as his second wife.
