She was the daughter of William Stid and Sarah Harris. Will Stid (1856) and Sarah Harris (1857) were married in 1876, and they came from the Dexter, MI area. Sarah was born in Woodstock, Canada, but came to Michigan when she was six.

Minnie, 82, died Sunday at her farm home on Plains Road, Leslie, where she spent most of her married life. Mrs. Howery had been sick for more than a year with a heart condition. Her family was with her.

She was survived by 2 sons, Albert (Merle) and Robert (Esther); 4 grandchildren, Lester, Beverly, Helen and Roger; 2 sisters, Olive Hayhoe, Pearl Reed, and a brother, Ralph Stid, and 2 great grandchildren, Kim and Kris.

During her childhood she attended the Housel School, and for most of her life she was a member of the Housel United Brethren Chuch.

Fred & Minnie were married in Leslie on April 27, 1899 by Rev. A. F. White. Ollie Stid (Minnie's sister) and Ford Hayhoe (Ollie's future husband) stood up with them. Fred was 23, Minnie was 20.

They lived on old 127 until a cyclone came through and tore off the top story of the house about 1917. Then they moved down to the Plains Road house with Rudolph & Mary, eventually buying it, and living there the rest of their lives: (Fred dying in 1932).

Her church (Housel United Brethren) and her faith in Jesus Christ were very real to Grandma. I (Helen) could often hear her prayers at night, as her bedroom was next to mine. She would name each child, and each grandchild in her prayers, and then go on to other people and their needs.

Grandma was always cleaning something...closets, cupboards, refrigerator, etc. And when she ran out of things to clean at her home, she went to one of her sisters and cleaned something there.

Rev. May Custer officiated at her funeral.
