John E. "Jack" Kanatzar, 81, died on December 12, 2008 at the home of his son. He was the son of the late Emmett and Mary (Hearney) Kanatzar. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the USS Presque Isle and the USS Namakagon and in the Korean War on the USS Magoffin. He was honorably discharged in 1951. He enjoyed a long career with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company and retired on November 5, 1981. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Mary Jo; former wife and mother of his children, Diane; brother, Harold; sister, Mary McElligott; and great-grandson, Blake Kanatzar. He was survived by five children, two brothers, six grandchildren, and eight grandchildren. Graveside service with full military honors: 11:00 a.m. on December 22, 2008 at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
