The story related to me by my mother, Eupha Austin Rogers and my aunt Mattie Austin Hatcher, was that there was a family driving through the country and camped near the Austin home the man became suddenly ill and died and is probably buried near the private plot. They futher related to me that Euphemia McKinney Austin sent Abraham on an errand to take food to the family at night. The woman who was in grief and fright mistook the boy for a robber and shot and killed him. It was such a shocking thing that the family never talked of it nor did they ever relate the name of the woman who shot him.
Thelma also states that this is believed to be the first burial in the cemetery.
