He was the son of David Nims and Jemima Carter. He was married to Mary Heaton on September 18, 1804 by Rev. Wm Muzzy. Mary Heaton was born May 13, 1781 at Gilsum, NH and died January 1, 1831 at Sullivan, NH. She was the daughter of Jonathan Heaton and Thankful Sawyer Clark.
He was a farmer, active in town affairs as juror & tax collector.
Asahel & Mary Nims had ten children born between 1805-1824 in Sullivan, namely: Edmund 1805, Mary 1806, Roxana 1808, James Lanman 1811, Asahel Jr. 1813, William 1815, Nancy Maria 1817-1819, Harriet Maria 1819, Seth 1822, Jemima 1824.
