OLAF NELSON
Funeral Services were held for Olaf Nelson, a pioneer resident of Keya Paha County for fifty-eight years. The services were held at the Methodist Church under the direction of REV. Glenn Kennicott. Interment was made in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Olaf Nelson was born January 2, 1859, in SWEDEN and passed away at his ranch home February 5, 1943, at the age of 84 years, 1 month, and 3 days.
He came to this country in 1880 at the age of 21 working on a farm for a time near Boone, Iowa.
The year after coming to this country Mr. Nelson was joined in marriage to Mary Halgrim of SWEDEN. To this union were born two sons Verner and Julius.
Julius passed away at the age of 18 months. In the spring of 1885 Mr. Nelson moved his family to a homestead northwest of Springvie where they lived for seven years. They then moved to a place near, where they lived for ten years. A final move was made to the p;ace east of Springview where he lived until the time of his death, a period of forty years.
Mr. nelson belonged to the Lutheran Church in SWEDEN but changed his membership to the Methodist Church while living northwest of Sprinview. He belonged to this church for more than forty years and while health permitted he was a strong asset both financially and otherwise. His influence was always tward the church and God.
His passing robbed the Springview community of a staunch, thrifty, hard working citizen, a kindly and beloved husband and father, and one more pioneer landmark.
Surviving Mr. Nelson are his wife; one son, Verner; two grandsons, Everett and Norman; other relatives; and many friends. Preceding him in death were a sister, who lived in Omatha after coming from SWEDEN, and the infant son, Julius.
