Charlotte Walker McKinnon, 79, died Monday, Dec. 1, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Daughter of the late Rev. Raymond and Gertrude Walker, she was born June 25, 1929 in Fort Gaines, Ga. before the family moved to Fort Lauderdale, Fla. After graduating from Dillard High School, she met Leaty McKinnon and they married on July 10, 1948. Leaty and Charlotte relocated to Asbury Park, where she worked as a seamstress for J.K. Kassaliner for many years. She was raised in the church and continued in the faith and serving God until her passing. She loved the Lord, lived to do His will, and served in various ministries within the church.
She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Leaty McKinnon; five sisters, Gwen Chance, Ollie Wright, Louise Johnson, Hazel Spellman, and Louise Leonard; three brothers, Lonester, Raymond Jr., and Harry Walker; and a great-granddaughter, Kimani Cherefant. She leaves to cherish her memories two sons, Charles and Leariton McKinnon; four daughters, Rosalyn McKinnon, Gizelle Dasent, Ivy Neal, and Barbara McKinnon; two sons-in-law, Rev. Melvin Neal and Everton Dasent; a niece, Ann Denson; two brothers-in-law, Rev. Otis Spellman and Rev. Isaiah McKinnon; a sister-in-law, Liz Walker; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Wednesday until the victory of life celebration at 11 a.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church, Rev. Tommy Miles, Senior Pastor, Rev. Melvin A. Neal, officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Prospect Cemetery. Repass will be at the V.F.W., Corlies Avenue, Neptune. Jackson Funeral Home, Neptune, is in charge of arrangements.
