Mosby D. Woodson, 69, 420 Olive, a lifetime resident of Leavenworth County, died on September 29, 1961 at 9:30 a.m., Friday at the VA Hospital where he had been a patient the past two months. Mr. Woodson had been in failing health the past 12 years and had been critical the past week.
Mr. Woodson was born at Easton, Ks., Jan. 11, 1892 and was a son of Warren and Thomazene Cook Woodson, early day residents of Easton. At the age of 6 he came to Leavenworth with his parents and this had been his home ever since.
At a very early age he learned the molder's trade and worked as a molder for the old Great Western Stove Co. until his retirement 12 years ago. At Leavenworth on Dec. 25, 1925, he was married to Miss Lora Copeland.
He was a veteran of World War I and enlisted in the Army at Cody, N.M. June 28, 1918. He was discharged Aug. 6, 1919 at Camp Zachary Taylor, Ky. He was a member of the Church of the Open Door and also a member of King Solomon Masonic Lodge No. 10 AF & AM.
Besides Mrs. Woodson of the home, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Dixie (Ben) Schmidt, 1811 Olive; two sisters; Miss Ruth Woodson and Mrs. George Fuhrman both of Kansas City, Mo.
Funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. today at the Davis Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Fred Cowles, pastor of the First Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the family lot in the Sunset Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be John Moore, Cecil Spinner, Raymond Spinner, Robert Woodson, William Woodson and David Woodson.
