She married the love of her life, Martin R. Akins of Glennville, on July 29, 1944, and then moved to Miami, Florida, where they created a wonderful and adventurous life for their family. She loved the outdoors, fishing, and traveling, and was always involved with her sons' and grandchildren's sporting activities. She was a devoted wife and mother and an accomplished businesswoman who helped found and run the family alarm business. She and her husband retired to Tavernier, Florida, in the Florida Keys in 1984 and returned to their common hometown of Glennville in September 2006. She was generous and caring and will be sadly missed by all of those who were fortunate
enough to have shared a portion of her life.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Martin Akins of Glennville; sons and daughters-inlaw, Terry and Cynthia Akins of Jacksonville, Florida; and Ken and Beverly Akins of Miami, Florida; grandchildren: Todd (Allison), Ashley, and Shannon; great-granddaughter, Brooke; sisters, Ruth Lomas of Bay Harbor, Florida; and Carolyn Purvis of Glennville; and brother, Dwight Todd of Winter Haven, Florida.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m Wednesday, December 3, from the Chapel of Brannen-Kennedy Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jerry Knight officiating. Entombment was in the Glennville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
Pallbearers were Steve Todd, Ed Rushing, Randall Durrence, Billy Todd, Raymond Todd, and Wayne Durrence.
