William Butler Barnes, who has resided the greater part of his life in the Ten Mile vicinity, passed away Tuesday morning at the home of his daughter (Brookfield). He had been declining in health for several years due to the infirmities of old age.
He was born January 14, 1849 in Kentucky, coming with his parents, Charles and Nancy Barnes, to Missouri when he was only one year of age. The family settled in the Ten Mile neighborhood, in Macon county and it was here that he grew to manhood, married and reared the greater part of his life.
He was married about fifty-nine years ago to Miss Alice Fairar, also of Ten Mile, and they continued to reside there until her death which occurred seven years ago. He then made his home with his children.
He leaves three sons and four daughters namely; Sam and Hillise of Ten Mile, C. C. of Montana, Mrs. O. O. Barton of Brookfield, Mrs. Alva Squires of Excello, Mrs. O. Hughes, of Fowler, Colo., and Mrs. Jennie Cox of this city (Clarence), with whom he spent a part of his time.
Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 at Ten Mile Baptist Church Cemetery there.
