Sherry was the third daughter - and middle child - of Genevieve MAJORS and Charles Calvin GILES. She had three sisters and a brother. An Army brat, she also became an Army wife and mother to five Army brats of her own - two girls and three boys. Sherry's personality and terrific wit delighted most everybody she met, making her hosts of friends of all ages everywhere she went. When Sherry's kids were grown or almost so, she started college. And there, one year, the mother of five found herself in the running for her school's homecoming queen.

Sherry moved from Tennessee to Florida in the 1980s. She said Panama City's beaches could always lift her spirits. Her health took a nosedive in the 1990s, and she was diagnosed with the congestive heart failure that finally took her life late in 2002. At Sherry's wish, she was cremated.
