George enlisted in the U.S. Navy on Nov. 17, 1939 at Nashville, Tennessee. He was a Torpedoman's Mate 2nd Class. His religion was Protestant. George's service included duty aboard the Dixie, the Stanly, the Preble and lastly appears on the muster roll of the Whitney on Aug. 31, 1943.

George was originally buried at Halawa Naval Cemetery in Oahu, Hawaii. He was probably reinterred at Nashville National Cemetery between 1946 and 1950.
