Dorothy Louise Phillips Anderson, born on January 14, 1926, was the third oldest of 14 children born to Frank and Pearlie Phillips. She was married to Willie Anderson and had two children, Larry Phillips and Sylvia Anderson. Considered one of the best cooks from the south, Dorothy utilized her skills as a cook for the Memphis City Schools System. When she retired, she thought the cooking would end, but not with two live-in grandchildren, Tam and Corey. She loved them, spoiled them, and cooked whatever they wanted. In September 2002, after losing weight at a rapid pace and not having an appetite, Dorothy went to the doctor to get a check up and was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer. Her doctor advised her to undergo the Whipple procedure in which he would cut off part of the pancreas, stomach, and intestine. The surgery, according to the doctor, proved to be a success - with him claiming that he had removed all of the cancer. To her family's dismay, Dorothy wasn't the same after the surgery. Her equilibrium was off and her memory began to fade. Several other instances landed her back in the hospital, but the final time was after suffering a stroke. After a few days in the hospital, Dorothy took her last breath on February 11, 2003. Miraculously, on the same day, her first and only great-grandchild, McKelvy Anderson, was born. Her family knows that Dorothy and McKelvy met each other through passing. She will always be an Angel watching over her family.
