Thurmon Pippens, 87, of Monroe, LA, formerly of Oak Grove, LA, was born on December 28, 1920 at home in Forest, LA to the union of Calvin Lee Pippens Sr. and Elon Russell Pippens. He died Monday at his residence in Monroe surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Pippens along with his brothers Edsel and C. L. owned and operated Pippens Service Café in Oak Grove, LA and Pippens Eat-A-Bite in Bastrop, LA. He was a well known lay minister and served as interim pastor for many area churches.

He was a veteran of World War II serving as an Army Air Force Radio Operator and was a member of the Catron Kelly Post #53 of the American Legion.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 62 years, Annie Mae Torrance Pippens; a brother, C. L. Pippens Jr.; and five sisters, Jewel Vining, Martha Schue, Metze Stinson, Ruby Goodwin and Pearl Norris.

He is survived by a daughter, Pam Pippens of Monroe, LA; four grandchildren, Stacy Robinson and Marcy Robinson both of Monroe, LA, Jason Robinson of Collierville, TN and Chris Robinson of Jackson, MS; five great grandchildren, Logan Peer and Chase, Taylor, Kristen and Kadee Robinson; two brothers, Edsel Pippens of Oak Grove and Glenn Pippens of Daleville, AL and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, November 28, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church in Oak Grove, LA with Rev. Bill McLain officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-9 PM Thursday at Cox Funeral Home in Oak Grove, LA.

Pallbearers will be Chris Robinson, Jason Robinson, Ben Robinson, Jim Jenkins, Logan Peer, Chase Robinson and Taylor Robinson.

Thurmon was a gentle and generous soul whose spirit touched all who met him. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
