Johann Herman Veltrop family history is told on pages 348 thru 351 of the Folk Parish History Book.

The name, Veltrop or Veltrup originates from the farming region of Veltrup, a region situated between Steinfurt and Emsdettern, Holland. Veltrup was indicated to mean "Village on the Hill", an elevated farming region. The original spelling of the family name was Veltrup. Legend has it that when the two of the Veltrup's (Stephannus and Herman) came to the USA, they were either misunderstood or chose to change their names to Feltrop. The rest of the clan maintained the original spelling except for the change of "U" to "O"; thus the relationship between the two families. (Per Folk Parish History Book)
