Darwin Whitaker, 82, of North David Avenue, Jackson, passed away at his residence on Monday, Oct. 30, 2000.
He was born in Jackson County on March 28, 1918. Darwin was a retired 33-year employee of the U.S. Post Office, Jackson branch, a member of the Jackson Christian Church, a member of the Jackson Rotary Club, a Paul Harris Fellow and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert andd Nell (Yerian) Whitaker; his wife, Ann in 1996; three brothers and two sisters.
He is survived by daughter Sylvia Kay Slagle of Ft. Myers, Fla.; two brothers, Walter of Jackson and Bob of Montpelier, Ohio; a granddaughter, Barbara Kay Carroll of Cincinnati and a great-grandson, Andrew Michael Carroll.
Friends may call at the Mayhew Funeral Home on Saturday, Nov. 4, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Jackson Christian Church on Sunday, Nov. 5 at 2 p.m. with Minister Kathryn Loxley officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery.
