William was the s/o David Keener and Charlotte Lotta Hickman Keener. Brother Isaac Harris Keener (1835-1917)served as CPL C CO 9th Tenn Calvary.

DECLARATION FOR ORIGINAL PENSION OF A MOTHER Dated may 16 1889 Charlotte Keener age 73 Volunteered at Camp Nelson, KY July or Aug 1863 Pvt Co C 9th Tenn Calvery commanded by Capt. Reloford (?) Died i n Service at age 25. May 28, 1864. Since son left no widow or child under age 16 That she was in part dependant on said son for support, that her husband said David Keener died Feb 4, 1878. That th ere were surviving brothers and sisters as follows: Isaac H born 1835 Lavina born 1837 George H born 1854 Mary A born 1850 She hereby appoints, with full power substitution and revocatio n - George E Lemon, of Washington D. C. her true and lawful attorney... that her Post office address is Cynthiana, Jefferson County, Tennessee signed her mark, Charlotte Keener Also personally appea red George Cowen of Sinking Springs, TN and Samuel Keener of Sinking Springs, TN (Name is listed as Keener here) .. that they were present when Charlotte Keener.. named filled in here are George Cowe n and Samuel Bales. Additional on affidavit. Living with me in may 1864 was George Keener, age 10 and Mary Ann Keener, age 14. David was diabled from manuel labor. dated Dec. 13, 1889.
