Retired NEWTON — Service for Johnie Floyd Weems, Sr. will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Decedar Baptist Church with the Revs. Leon Stuart and Dr. Frank Harmon officiating. Burial will be in Decedar Church Cemetery. Newton County Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. He was retired.
Mr. Weems, 88, of Lawrence, died on Monday Dec. 1, 2008, in his home. He was a deacon of Decedar Baptist church for 44 years. Recently he was named 2008 Mississippi Tree Farmer of the year, he was a member of the Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his children, Loletta and Wayne Boutwell of Slidell, La., Rosetta and LeRoy Walton of Troy, Aa., Buddy and Angelina Weems of Newton, Danny and Nora Weems of Ringgold, Ga.; brother, Ozelle Weems and his wife, Margie; grandchildren, Mark, Kim, Morgan, and Tyler Boutwell, Conie, Alan, Allison, GregoryTeel, Jeffrey, Debby, Parker, Jody and Connor Walton, Johnie, Dawn, Hoop, Valli, Kirk, Chris, Jessica, Cole, Codi, Cami, and Celi Weems, Delwin, Tony, Dayton and Dalton Rickertson, Nikki, Stephen, and Daniel Berry; a niece, Linda and nephew Murry.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Dorothy Ellen Gaskin Weems; his parents, Floyd and Vera Weems.
