James A. Collins, 47, Suffers Heart Attack

James A. Collins, 47, a resident of Cherokee for the past 11 years, died at his home at 3:20 Sunday morning following a heart attack. The Pittsburg fire department resuscitation squad was called and worked with hom for more than an hour. County Coroner Dr. W.G. Rinehart was also called.

Mr. Collins had worked Friday at his job with the Frisco railroad in Girard. We talked with him at the postoffice that evening. He did not work on Saturdays. He had been a Frisco employee for more than 20 years.

Born October 28, 1803 (sic) at Ash Grove, Mo., Mr. Collins moved to Pittsburg in 1936 and came to Cherokee in 1940, where he had resided since. He took a great interest in Masonry and was master of Cherokee lodge No. 119, AF&AM in 1946. He also held memberships in the Royal Arch Chapter and the Order of the Eastern Star.

He is survived by the widow, Mrs. Flossie Collins of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Bessie Boore of this city; one son, Joe Bob Collins of Santa Fe, N.M.; his father, J.W. Collins of Ash Grove, Mo.; two sisters, Mrs. Lillie Simmrel, Eldorado Springs, Mo., and Mrs. Margaret Cotter, Bois D'Arc, Mo.; four brothers, Elmer of Kansas City, Robert of Ash Grove, Troy of Brooklyn and George of St. James, Mo.

Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Methodist church with the pastor, Rev. G.M. Pierce officiating. Mrs. Virginia Martino was soloist at the services with Mrs. Helen Conner as accompanist. Graveside rites were performed by the Masonic lodge, and interment was in the Cherokee cemetery in charge of the Brenner mortuary.
Pallbearers were Lee Wisby, Earl Williams, Tony Rauniker, Chris Nance, Earl Irwin and Russell Boore. Honorary pallbearers were Jesse D. Spielman, Joe Lucchi, Wm. A. McCants, Joe Thompson, Chas. Sharp, Chas. Swartz, John W. Hough and George Janeski.
