William Horton was a grocer and wood & coal dealer in Dorchester, Massachusetts throughout the latter half of the 1800's. He married Sarah Blodgett Fisher in Boston on September 1, 1851 and they had nine children, seven of whom survived to adulthood. There are no markers on their gravesites in Forest Hills Cemetery.

Death record gives the year of his birth as 1825, however, a year of 1826 or 1827 is more consistent with his age as reported in most of the census records and his marriage record. It also fits better with the date of birth of his older brother Abel in May of 1824.
