Jacob Shoemaker Gobin was born to Edward Gobin and Susannah Shoemaker in Sunbury, Pennyslvania. He was the grandson of Charles Gobin and Ann Phillips as well as Henry Shoemaker(Schumaher) and Barbara Kepner. He married Emily Patterson Mix on 24 Jan 1838 in Baltimore,Maryland. They had the following children: Susan Frances, Mary Alice , Twins Edward Livingston and Cornelius Mix, Guy George Allen, Sarah Elizabeth, Emily Jane, Virginia "Jenny" E., Janet, Anna Louise, Charles Henry.
