Mr. Johnson died May 5, 2008. He was born Jan. 30, 1923, in Ada, Oklahoma to Roy and Stella Johnson.
He was raised in Ada and left home after a year of college to serve in the Army Air Corp during World War II as an aircraft mechanic crew chief.
Following his honorable discharge, Mr. Johnson married his wife Betty, of Ada. The couple made Casa Grande their home where he was a building contractor from 1947 until his retirement.
Mr. Johnson played a major role in Casa Grande's economic development by working with others to design and promote the Valley Industrial Park. McNatt Manor and the Palm Parke subdivision was also developed by him.
Mr. Johnson was co-founder of O'Odham Tash, served as president of the Casa Grande Chamber of Commerce and assisted in the development of the MulChuTa celebration in Sacaton. He was a member of Elks Club and American Legion.
He is survived by his best friend and companion Katie Finn; a daughter, Donna Villa; two sons, Ron and Randy Johnson, all of Casa Grande; a sister, Majorie May, of California; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Betty.
