He served in the U. S. Army during World War II and was retired from Red River Army Depot in 1977.
He was preceded in death by his daughter and son-in-law, Norma and Dennis Woodruff.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Opal Graf Johnston of Texarkana, Arkansas, his daughter, Linda Matthews of Texarkana, and his son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Lil Johnston of Parker, Colorado; his grandchildren and their families: Sheri Vaitkus, husband, James, and son, Jamey; Clifton Matthews, wife, Lori, and daughter Lindsey; Heather Huckabee, husband Paul and daughters, Autumn and Olivia; Charla Woodruff and daughter, Nora, all of Texarkana; Alicia Rosen and husband, Bryan of Las Vegas, Nevada; Melanie Johnston of Seattle, Washington; and Brandon Woodruff of Greenville, Texas; his brothers and their wives, M.C. and Kay Johnston of Ashdown, Arkansas, and J. B. and Merline Johnston of Fort Worth, Texas, and a sister and her husband, Beulah Mae and Olen Coleman of Visalia, California.
Graveside services will be at 2:00 P. M. Saturday at East Memorial Gardens with Rev. Tim Reed officiating. Burial will be under the direction of Texarkana Funeral Home, Arkansas.
