Grand Island Independent (NE) - Thursday, Nov. 9, 1989:

Leonard Werner Burbach, 66, of Central City died unexpectedly Wednesday, Nov. 8, at Lincoln.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Central City. The Rev. Carl Sodoro will officiate. Burial will be in Central City Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-5 p.m. Friday at Solt Funeral Home in Central City with a rosary at 7 p.m. at the church.

Mr. Burbach was born March 10, 1923, at Hartington, the son of Henry and Anna McFadden Burbach. He attended Holy Trinity parochial school in Hartington , graduating in 1941. During World War II he served in the Army, serving in 1945-46 in the Asiatic-Pacific campaign. He received the Philippine Liberation ribbon, World War II Victory medal and Army of Occupation medal.

He married Theresa Conley on June 4, 1947, at South Sioux City. They farmed near Hartington until 1954, when they moved to a farm near Norfolk. He later moved to Central City where he was an insurance agent for Lincoln Benefit Insurance Co., retiring in 1985.

He was an active member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus and an avid gardener, operating a produce stand.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Leonard C. of Omaha, Jay and Richard, both of Central City; two daughters, Jodi Christensen of Waterloo and Mrs. Melvin (Nancy) Schaecher of Battle Creek; a brother, the Rev. Jude Burbach, OSB of Atchison, Kan., and two sisters, Delores Johnston of Hartington and Ann Janssen of Bellevue, and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth, two infant grandchildren, two sisters and two brothers.
