NEW CREEK,WEST VIRGINIA -- Haven Glenn "Sam" Amtower, 78, of HC-72, Box 214, New Creek, died Tuesday, July 25, 2000, at his residence.

Born on Sept. 22, 1921, in Laurel Dale, he was a son of the late Robert "Weck" and Sena Lucille (Cosner) Amtower. He was also preceded in death by five brothers, Ralph, James, Emory, Ervin and Floyd Amtower; one half sister, Nelcie Ashby; and two half brothers, Claude Amtower and Ray Amtower.

Mr. Amtower was retired from Westvaco Corp., with 27 years of service. He was a member of the Oak Dale Church of the Brethren. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of the Nancy Hanks Post #3518, VFW, Keyser, and the Kelly-Mansfield Post #52, American Legion, Piedmont.

Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Mary Katherine (Evans) Amtower; two sons, Vernon Glenn Amtower, Richard A. Amtower, both of New Creek; one daughter, Margaret L. Judy, Petersburg; three sisters, Ethel Rohrbaugh, Maysville, Edna Jones, Oakland, Md., Doris Cosner, Mount Storm; one granddaughter, Melissa Ann Cook; two great-grandchildren, Sonya and Britt Cook, all of Arthur.

Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Smith Funeral Home on Friday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. John Walker officiating.

Interment will be in the Maysville Cemetery, Maysville.

Graveside services will be accorded.
