Sylvia Bell Bird, 76, of Hardy, formerly of Hurricane, W. Va., died April 28 at her home. She was born Nov. 7, 1929, in Hurricane, W. Va., the daughter of the late Wyatt Dale and Minnie Mae Toland Searls. She was united in marriage to Clarence Ray Bird in West Virginia. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include six sons, Charles Ray Bird of Commerce City, Colo., Larry Lee Bird of Horseshoe Bend, Billy Russell Bird of Mammoth Spring, David Wayne Bird of Hardy, Jerry Lynn Collins of Myrtle, Mo., and Aaron Tony Lee Collins of Hardy; three daughters, Judy Marie Bennett of Haltom City, Texas, Juanita Faye Owens of Buffalo, S.C., and Nancy Bell Frazier of Hardy; two brothers Miles Searls and Melvin Searls, both of Hurricane, two sisters, Elizabeth Jorden of Hurricane, and Pauline Davis of Poca, W.Va., 29 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Joseph Michael Bird; three brothers and two sisters.

The funeral service was held at Spring River Baptist Church in Hardy May 1 with Bro. Floyd Rikard officiating. Burial followed at the Wirth Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Service of Hardy.

Pallbearers were John Scott, Russell Brawley, Donald Arnold, Gerald Welch, Danny Collins and Paul Delaney.
