She was born May 11, 1923 to Irven Seth and Mary V. Lamoreaux Hoopes in Phoenix, Arizona. She married William Brown, Jr., September 9, 1945 in Chula Vista, CA (later divorced); married John Dale Ashby in the Los Angeles Temple on October 13, 1973 where her two sons were sealed to them.
She was an active member of the LDS Church and loved the gospel. She and Dale served in the Missouri Independence Mission in 1990. They served for many years in the Salt Lake Temple and later in the Bountiful Temple. Betty also served for a few years in the Church Auditing Dept.
Survivors include her husband Dale, two sons, Gary (Susan) Brown and Grant (Brenda) Brown; two stepsons, Jerry (Vanee) Ashby and Dennis (Tina) Ashby; two stepdaughters, Meridel Barden and Penny (Lee) Piekarski and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; also special cousins, Hazel Pew, Ray Hancock and other extended family.
She was predeceased by twin grandsons, born and died December 1982, and son-in-law Jim Barden.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday, June 22, 2004 at 1 p.m. at the Clinton 3rd Ward Chapel, 2223 N. 1000 W., with President Joe A. Anderson officiating. Friends may call on June 22, 2004 at the church one-hour before the services. Interment in the old Bountiful Cemetery. Funeral Directors, Myers Mortuary in Roy.
