John William Ulm, Sr. was struck and killed by a westbound Nickel Plate railroad freight train.
John W. Ulm, Sr., was born in Remington, Ind., Nov. 16, 1892, the son of John W. and Sarah Ulm. In 1919, in DeKalb, Ill., he married Mamie Masters, who preceded him in death.
Retired Barber
He moved to Valparaiso from Goodland in 1922. He was a retired barber and a veteran of World War I.
Surviving are one son, John W. Jr.; two step-daughters, Mrs. Alberta Saboda, East Gary, and Mrs. Kathryn Kayes, Hammond; three brothers, Floyd, Morocco, Charles, Remington, and Joseph, in California, and two sisters, Mrs. Dora Graham and Mrs. Ethel Rodenberger, both of Remington.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Wetmore Funeral home with the Rev. F. Raymond Fowerbaugh, assistant at St. Paul's Catholic church, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. today.
