OBITUARY:
Charles Washington Conger was born in Jefferson County, Iowa, December 13, 1851. He came to Oregon with his parents, Enoch and Pamelia Conger in 1852, making the long journey across the plains with ox team. They located at Pleasant Hill near Eugene.

In 1869 he came to Eastern Oregon, and six years later located at Long Creek where he was successful as a stock raiser, and also in the mercantile business.

In 1876 Mr. Conger married Miss Samantha Scroggins who died in 1889 leaving five children; Mrs. Leatta Kidd of Portland, J. M. of Long Creek, T. Lester of Hayward, California, Grover C. of Portland and Mrs. Rose Carter of Long Creek.

The second marriage was with Miss Alice Barr, who passed away leaving one child, Mrs. Alma Curtis of Garberville, California.

His marriage to Miss Sarah Kemper occured at Healdsburg, California July 25, 1900.

Mr. Conger was loyally and actively interested in public and local affairs. He was an active member of the Masonic and Eastern Star Lodges and was also affiliated with the Knights of Pythias and Phythian Sisters. He had set himself a high standard of personal honor and during the many years of his life never deviated from the code.

For several years Mr. Conger had been in ill health, and a few months ago went to Portland for medical aid, when he passed away January 15, 1923.

His remains was brought to Long Creek for interment. Rev. G. R. Eads of Weston spoke word of comfort and the services at the cemetery was conducted by Long Creek Lodge No. 90 A.F. & A.M..

Besides his wife and children he leaves five brothers; John of Fox, H.H. and J.A. of Long Creek, Thomas of Twin Falls and L. B, of Portland.
