Actor. Known as a prolific character performer, his career spanned over 60 years on stage, film and television. He made his stage debut on Broadway in "Antigone" (1946), appearing in many other productions to include "Romeo and Juliet" (1951), "The Lark" (1955), "The Iceman Cometh" (1973), "Equus" (1974) and "Reunion" (1980). For feature films he appeared in "The Conversation" (1974), "The Stepford Wives" (1975), "The Seduction of Joe Tynan" (1979), "Fort Apache, the Bronx" (1981), "A Midsummer Night's Sex Comedy" (1982), "Off the Black" (2006) and "The Favor" (2007). He also was regular on TV with roles in "Playhouse 90", "Gunsmoke", "Ben Casey", "The Outer Limits" and "The Andy Griffith Show". He died of heart failure.
