Henry was the second son of Edward and Cynthia Beech Curtiss. Henry and his family were living in Heath, Allegan County Michigan when his mother died. He was 8 years old at the time. He had one brother older and three brothers younger than he. Edwin D. born 1873 died 1953, John E. born 1877, James born 1879 died 1949, and Ned born 1882 died 1924.

June 20, 1902 Henry married Celia Stevens in Painesville OH. They had two children - Emerson born 1903 who married Helen Marie Lampella and died 1984 and Frances born 1904 married Robert Lockwood and died 1970.

Henry worked for many years as a carpenter-contractor and was well known in the community. He was a memeber of the carpenters' local union and the Junior Order, United American Mechanics.

His memorial service was held at the Nixon Funeral Home with the Rev. I. F. Bregitzer of the Zion Lutheran Church officiating.
