Evan Papworth Call, 78, of Logan, died June 5, 1989 at his home in Logan of Leukemia.
Funeral services, will be held Thursday, June 8, 1989 at 11 a.m. in the Logan 23rd Ward Chapel 565 E. 100 S. Logan, with Bishop Lyle Reese conducting. Interment will be in the Afton Cemetery.
He was born Feb 1, 1911 in Afton, son of Thomas John and Ethel Grace Papworth Call. He married Bessie Warren on July 11, 1935 in the Logan LDS Temple.
He was raised in Star Valley and graduated from Star Valley High School and then attended Brigham Young University in the winter of 1934. He owned and operated a farm in Afton where he raised cattle. He was also a contractor and builder. His jobs included schools, hospitals, homes, dams and signs. He built named and operated the Valleon Hotel and Dance Hall in Afton for several years. He also owned Call Ready Mix in Afton.
He was an active member of the LDS Church having served as a stake missionary, high councilman, member of the bishopric, Sunday School presidency, Sunday School teacher, home teacher, high priest group presidency. He served a full time mission to the Eastern States Mission in 1931. He also enjoyed doing temple work.
In 1972 he and his family moved to Logan where they have lived since. He was ambitious and always took pride in his work.
Survivors include his wife of Logan; seven sons and seven daughters; Kay Call, Webster, MI; Mrs Alden (Jennie C) Partridge, Rexburg, ID; Dee W. Call, Grover WY; Wynn W. Call, Mesa AZ; Mrs Kent (Louise C.) Goldsberry Bountiful UT; Ralph I Call, Kearney NB; Don W. Call, Salt Lake City; Mrs Fred (Annie C.) Brog Freedom WY; Ben W. Call Payson UT; Mrs Robert (Jill C.) Litchfield, Richland WA; Mrs Gregg (Lenna C.) Draney Auburn WY; Warren Call, Spanish Fork UT; Mrs Steve (Grace C.) Simmons, Smithfield, UT; 90 grandchildren; and 25 great grandchildren; brothers Reuel T. Call, Spencer P. Call Afton; Robert P. Call, Rexburg; sisters Thelma Enfield, Missouri; Maxine Veigel, Afton. He was preceded in death by two sisters. two brothers and four grandchildren.
