Joseph Amariah Biggs married Martha "Mattie" Jane Dorsey on 14 October 1873 at Pike County, Arkansas.

Rev. Biggs was a school teacher at Benton, Arkansas in 1899. In February 1905, Rev. J.A. Biggs moved to Stamford from Arkansas and bought the home owned by Mrs. S.E. Owen on McHarg Avenue. In May 1905, Rev. J.A. Biggs preached a short four-week meeting on behalf of the Stamford missionary circuit. There were 100 conversions and 75 accessions to the Methodist Church. Rev. J.A. Biggs is now Methodist pastor at St. John's Methodist Church at Stamford, Texas in 1905. As a pastor, Rev. J.A. Biggs preaches on the 2nd and 4th Sundays at Stamford and the 1st and 3rd Sundays at the Sunnyside Methodist Church in Jones County. In June 1905, Horace Biggs came to Stamford from DeQueen, Arkansas to visit his parents. Rev. Biggs is a speaker at the United Confederate Reunion in July 1905. in July 1905, Mrs. J.A. Biggs and her sister, Mrs. J.W. Dean of Lampasas got to Belton for Mrs. Dean to be treated for cancer. In August 1905, Rev. Biggs is preaching every Sunday at the Stamford Methodist Church as pastor. In November of 1905, Rev. Biggs was appointed to the Abilene District by the Northwest Texas Methodist Conference for the Abilene District.

Rev. Biggs and his wife then moved to Anson, Texas to become the Methodist pastor there. In December 1906, Miss Olivia Biggs, a milliner in a Blanket, Texas dry goods store spent the holidays with her parents. By 1908, Rev. Biggs was pastor of the Methodist Church at Ballinger, Texas. In 1915, he was the pastor of the Methodist Church in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
