Pioneer Civic Leader Dies; Burial Today
L.S. Williamson, Retired Businessman of Temple, Dies After Heart Attack
L.S. Williamson, retired businessman and prominent in civic affairs of Temple for the past 42 years, died yesterday morning at 1:40 following a two weeks illness brought on by a heart attack.
Mr. Williamson, former president of the Chamber of Commerce, former president of the Bell County Fair Association, one of the founders of the Temple Country Club, member of the Trapshooters association and a worker in all affairs of civic interest, had been in ill health for the past five years. He suffered a paralytic stroke five years ago last November.
He was first in the harness and buggy business and with the advent of the automobile, went into the automobile accessory business. He also owned part of an automotive electrical concern. He retired from active business five years ago. Mr. Williamson was at one time president of the Rotary club. He was prominent among sportsmen.
Born in Illinois, Mr. Williamson came to Temple in 1891. He married Miss Mabel C. Lee on July 14, 1897.
Services at 3 o'clock
The body will remain at Pace Funeral Home until 2 o'clock this afternoon. It will then be taken to Grace Presbyterian church where it will lie in state from two until three o'clock.
Services will be held at the church at three o'clock with Rev. C. E. Alexander presiding. Interment will be at Hillcrest cemetery. Mr. Williamson had been a member of the Grace Presbyterian church for 25 years.
Survivors are: Mrs. Williamson, four daughters, Mrs. Earl Casey and Mrs. Hobart Cantrell of Temple; Mrs. John Roming of Edy; Mrs. Jack Hight of Tyler; one brother, R.E. Williamson of Temple; one sister, Mrs. Charlie Bachman of Lawrenceville, Illinois; five grandchildren, Earl Lee Casey and Stanley Casey of Temple, John Aston Roming and Chastine Claire Roming of Eddy and Jack Hight of Tyler.
Active pallbearers will be T.J. Laramey, C.E. Stockton, John Houghton, J.J. Booker, Fred E. Stroop and Dr. A.C. Scott Sr.
