I feel very fortunate to have met my uncle in the summer of 2001, when my husband, daughter and myself were in New York to get my daughter settled at Syracuse University. We visited with my uncle and aunt for several days. I saw them each summer until he passed away. He suffered from diabetes and heart disease. Uncle Ed was a good, kind man, he loved his wife very much and took good care of her. They took good care of each other. Everyone I met described them as two peas in a pod, very close. They didn't have any children of their own but they had adopted my Aunt's niece as a child and raised her.
Edward and his wife ran his parent's dairy farm after they passed away. When they decided to retire, they sold the dairy farm but not all of the land. Uncle Ed kept a large portion of the land which was very beautiful. Situated upon a hill they would sit out on their porch and had a view of the countryside. I love sitting there with them, sharing stories and looking down at the valley. I miss my uncle Ed and I thank God for having met him.

Mr. Edward E. Dingman, 81, of Dingman Road, Fort Plain, New York died Thursday, October 14, 2004 at Palatine Nursing Home, following an extended illness.
He was born June 24, 1923 in the Town of Minden, New York, son of Stewart and Bertha Russ Dingman. Mr. Dingman was educated in the Salt Springville Country School and also East Springfield High School. He was a life long area resident.
Mr. Dingman was a dairy farmer in the Town of Minden for 50 years, retiring in 1985. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army as a Military Police Officer. He was a member of the South Minden Volunteer Fire Department and was a former fire chief and is a charter member. He is also a member of the American Legion Post #554 of Fort Plain.
He was married on December 6, 1946 in Fort Plain to Hazel R. Dingman, they were married for over 57 years.
Survivors include his wife Hazel Dingman of Fort Plain, New York; one daughter Harriet Barney of Fort Plain, New York; one sister Janis Bartholomew of Wells, New York; one granddaughter Hazel R. Barney; one great-grandson; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mr. Dingman was predeceased by one brother Arthur Dingman; and five sisters Bertha Harrington, Margaret David, Janet Ziedner, Marion Dingman and Dorothy Barney.
A 10:00 AM Funeral Service will be held on Monday October 18, 2004 at Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, New York. Burial will take place in Fort Plain Cemetery. Family will receive friends and relatives from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 PM on Sunday, October 17, 2004 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to South Minden Volunteer Fire Department, 1029 St. Hwy 163, Fort Plain, New York, 13339.
