Passing of C H Graham
As was briefly stated in last week's Express C H Graham passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs L A Sackett Friday morning, February 6th, after a brief illness with acute pneumonia.

Mr Graham was born in Canada on May 3, 1834. When a child of seven years he was taken with his parents to Illinois. His mother died when he was but ten years of age and he went to live with Cyrus Alexander whose family he joined in a trip down the Mississippi and across the Isthmus of Panama, arriving in California when 18 years of age and settled on the Russian river in Alexander valley.

[Note: Charles is listed in the 1852 CA state census. He is age 16 and living with the Alexander family.]

Charles Hanford Graham married Phebe Olinda Treat 15 October 1857 in Solano county CA per California County Marriages 1850-1952. FHL film.

After attaining his majority he came to Vaca valley where he married Phoebe Treat. He acquired a homestead, then lost it by a fraudulent grant. Soon after losing his home, his wife was burned to death by the explosion of some liniment she was making. Disheartened by these calamities he went to Nevada and there spent some years in the mines.
Charles was naturalized in Colusa County, Ca on 16 October 1883.

He returned to Suisun valley and there married Mary Ann Newton. Ten children resulted from this union, six of whom are still living. They moved to Modoc county in 1887 and later to Kennett. The remaining family still reside at Kennett.

Mr Graham was a man of unusual vitality. He did a man's work every day up until his sudden taking on, although he had attained the advanced age of 80 years. For the past five years he has made his home with the L A Sackett family. His sudden death is a great grief to his stricken family in whose sorrows the community shares.

Other sons are Albert G. Graham born ~1876
and Ernest R. Graham born 3 Feb 1879.

[Note: Kennett, CA was flooded by Lake Shasta in 1944.]

Note: died at the LE Sackett Ranch- - 80 yrs- Native of Illinois- Mc Fall Mortuary
