John Barry was born Aug 9,1791 in Stillwater,Albany,(now Saratoga), New York and died Oct 30, 1875 in Milford, Lagrange, Indiana.
He was first married to Eva Failing and then Mary Ann Darrow.
Children with Eva Failing: Andrew, John Jr., Polly, Edwin, Julia Ann, and infant.
Children with Mary Ann Darrow: Mary Charlotte, Daniel, Benjamin, George, James, Archibald and baby girl.
In 1794 he moved with his parents to Palatine, Montgomery, New York. According to pension applications on file in both the New York and National Archives, John served as a private in the War of 1812, as a minuteman drafted at Brownville, Jefferson, New York, serving in the defense of Sackett's Harbor, NY, for a tree-day period. Shortly afterward he was recalled to duty for an additional 30 days, actually serving 29 in the company commanded by Capt. John Hoover in Col. Britt's regiment. He was honorably discharged at Brownville, Jefferson, NY, 8 Nov 1814, (This service is taken from his own applications for federal and state pensions - which were denied. National Archives service records show his service from 11 Oct to 8 Nov 1814, not in Col Britt's but in Col. Britain's 108 Regiment. Three other John Barry's served in that war from NY, a private, a seaman and a junior gunner.
Histories of LaGrange County, Indiana, frequently refer to Capt. Barry, evidently referring to John.
