MOSS, Martha A., 61,
died Nov. 6, 1920.
d/o Cyrus and Sarah FISHER.
On April 11, 1874 she united in marriage to William S. MOSS.

Six children were born to this union; John C. of Marion; Lucy C., wife of Robert E. AKIN, Akin; Janie, wife of V. M. LEE, Macedonia; Nellie B., wife of J. E. MOOREMAN, Erie; Gertie F., wife of Clyde H. VISE, Macedonia; and one daughter died in infancy.

"Mrs. MOSS professed a living faith in Christ in 1874 and united with the Missionary Baptist Church at Antioch, holding the membership there until a church of like faith and order was organized at Macedonia, when she withdrew her membership from Antioch and became a charter member of the new organization at Macedonia, living, and at her death rounding out a life of duty and Christian devotion to the church and Christian religion.

One of the stronger characteristics of her life was her great devotion to and love of her home and family, husband and children. She was particularly noted for her earnest devotion to her children. It is not strange or wonderful that those thus bereaved are overwhelmed with grief and sorrow at the awful, sudden and unexpected loss they have sustained. Wife and mother has left a glorious Christian example, this knowledge and the hope of meeting her again in the Christian's future home constitutes for them a pleasing consolation."

Funeral services at Macedonia, Rev. R. W. LEE of Benton officiating.

Interment in Macedonia Cemetery.

An article in the "McLeansboro Leader" follows: "Mrs. William S. MOSS, an old and highly respected lady of Macedonia, was fatally burned last Saturday while burning leaves at her home. She had raked the leaves and set them afire when the flames ignited her apron.

She attempted to put out the fire, but seeing she could not, ran to the house causing the flames to spread more rapidly, and by the time she reached the house her clothing was completely burned from her body with the exceptions of her hose. Her hair was burned from her head, but by holding a cushion over her face it was not so badly burned as was her body. She suffered agonies until about 9 o'clock when death relieved her. Her husband, who was confined to his room upstairs, rushed to her assistance as quickly as possible. He sustained severe burns on the hands and arms in trying to save his companion. Her little granddaughter (June VISE CARLTON), who lives across the street, was the only one to see her grandmother when her clothing caught fire, and she ran to tell the grandfather, but when he reached her it was too late to save her life...Mr. and Mrs. MOSS were highly respected citizens of Macedonia and have a beautiful home which they had prepared in their younger days to abide in when they became old and would no longer be able to work, and it was a happy home where visitors and friends received the kindest hospitality.

The Leader joins the husband's many friends in extending its sincere sympathy."
