Carmella V. Nacchia

Carmella V. Nacchia, age 96, passed away peacefully at St. Francis Hospital on November 13, 2008.

A life long resident of Wilmington, DE, she will be remembered as a very sweet mother, grand-mother, and great grandmother who always was very generous to her family and friends. Her loving and caring personality will be missed by all who knew her. Born in Cresson, PA, Carmella was the daughter of the late Raffaele Vassalotti and Mary Bozzo. She was the oldest of 7 children. Carmella was a devout Catholic and had a deep respect for all that is religious. Carmella loved to cook and share her meals. She also loved to crochet afghans for her family over the years.

Carmella was predeceased by her husband, Virgil "Skeets" Nacchia and by her son Ralph (Gail). She will be dearly missed by her children, Rosemarie Cannon (Wallace), James Nacchia (Paulette), and Joseph V. Nacchia (Donna), all of Wilmington; her grandchildren, Donna and Jeff Cannon, Tina Wecht, James J. Jr., Paul, Samuel and Veronica Nacchia; 13 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren; and her sister, Dolores Seramone.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian burial at St. Ann Church, Gilpin Avenue & Union Street, Wilmington on Tuesday, November 18 at 11 am. Burial will be in Cathedral Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the DOHERTY FUNERAL HOME, 1900 Delaware Avenue, Wilmington, on Tuesday morning from 9-10:30am.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in memory of Carmella Nacchia to Luther Towers II, 1420 N. Franklin St., Wilmington, DE 19806, Attention: John Otto.
